Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age. Matthew 28:19-20
As we have done over the past several summers, for a time we set aside the usual work of our congregation and focus our energies and attention on worship, life and calling. We temporarily discontinue meetings, commitee night, council and such so that we can re-center ourselves around Word and Sacrament, prayer and community. We intentionally take a break from our busy-ness so that God can speak to us in new ways. We call this time Summer Sabbatical.
For last summer's July sabbatical time, we went to one service at 9:30 a.m. and focused on practices that brought us together in community... hence Come-in-Unity was our theme. This year we are extending our sabbatical to 6 weeks in length beginning on Sunday, July 5th and running through Sunday, August 9th. There will again be one service on these Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m. with our focus this year on the Great Commission of Jesus. As we Come-In-Mission for these six Sundays, we will learn together, pray together, work together, serve together, invite together, disciple others together, and seek to be faithful together of Jesus' last words. Each Sunday will be marked with different mission focus. We will have special guests who will share mission experiences and opportunities both local and global in scope. We will hear from our Youth when they return from the National Youth Gathering in New Orleans. There will be opportunities to get involved with various mission projects and ministries. And of course, time for some fun and rest.
