In Galatians 6, Paul tells us to "carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." At Redeemer our Stephen Ministers have been trained and organized to do just that. They provide one on one care, prayer, and support to those who are going through a difficult time.
WHAT IS A STEPHEN MINISTER?
* A child of God who walks beside a hurting person
* A caring Christian friend who really listens
* A lay person who has received fifty hours of training in how to provide distinctively Christian Care

How Does Stephen Ministry Work?
Stephen Ministry is a free and confidential Christian care giving ministry delivered by trained lay persons who have completed 50 hours of training. Some examples of the types of personal crises for which Stephen Ministers provide high quality care encouraging others during difficult times with God's love.
When someone requests a Stephen Minister our Stephen Ministry Referrals Coordinator will meet with that person, explain what Stephen Ministry is, and help determine whether Stephen Ministry is the kind of care that person needs. The coordinator would then match that person with one of our available Stephen Ministers.

| Stephen Ministry helps meet the needs of those who are:
| Hospitalized |
Terminally Ill |
| Lonely |
Bereaved |
| In a Job Crisis |
Disabled |
| In a Spiritual Crisis |
New Member of the Church |
| Homebound |
Divorcing |
| Pregnant / Soon to give birth |
And countless other crisis situations |
|
When Stephen Ministers are assigned a care receiver, they call that person and begin meeting with that care receiver for about an hour per week. This caring relationship will last as long as the care receiver needs it. Everything the care receiver says to his or her Stephen Minister is kept confidential. The Stephen Minister doesn't try to solve problems; rather, he or she listens, cares, prays, and helps the care receiver find his or her path to healing and wholeness.
Who Will Benefit From Stephen Ministry?
Everybody benefits from Stephen Ministry. Those receiving care from Stephen Ministers benefit because they receive prayer and support throughout the crises they face. Stephen Ministers benefit through the spiritual growth they experience from being involved in meaningful ministry. Our pastor benefits because caring ministry at Redeemer is expanded, and fewer people will slip through the cracks. Most of all YOU will benefit from the knowledge that special care is available to you should you need it. In addition, you now have a place where you can refer a friend, neighbor, co-worker, relative, or anyone else you know who is going through a difficult time so they can receive special care when they need it most. Stephen Ministry makes Redeemer a much more caring place.
